Ok first off lets update on what’s happening right… now.
My enamel pin kickstarter has 15 days left. It’s been a learning experience so far. Mostly I’m learning I need to find better ways to communicate/get people excited about what I’m doing, and all that. This has always been a weak point for me, to find ways to connect with the audience that would dig my stuff. My natural personality is not that of a hype person. I’ve been told I can be a bit understated when I talk or share my own work. Well… this is how we learn things right? Success or fail, we trudge on.
I’m taking part in the ACME Art Company Resurrected Art Auction at the Vanderelli Room in Columbus Ohio. Event is Saturday, October 21 at 6 PM – 10 PM. The preview exhibition will be happening at Franklinton Friday, October 13th – 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
ACME Art Company’s infamous Art Auction is resurrected once again! New and emerging artists will present their artwork for silent or live auction. Proceeds benefit the artists and The Vanderelli Room.ACME ART COMPANY COMES ALIVE AGAIN IN OCTOBER 2017!
Since its inception in 1987, ACME Art Company was the first central Ohio gallery with a mission to provide a space devoted to local, avant-garde artists through art installations, music, and theater. ACME presented Columbus’ early underground events such as Cafe Ashtray – a venue for experimental performance art.
Originally located in Columbus’ Short North, ACME Art Company played an integral role the development of the area’s art scene. Many of ACME’s artists and supporters went on to continue their work as artists and musicians, open their own art spaces and theaters, and support arts organizations around the Short North and beyond.
To celebrate ACME’s 30th year since its inception, TWO events are planned this October, a reunion exhibition and an art auction. ACME Art Company will be collaborating with The Vanderelli Room – Columbus’ center of alternative art – at its Franklinton Arts District location at 218 McDowell Street, Columbus, OH 43215.
I will be at the art auction but I can’t make Franklinton Friday this month, so I’ll see you on the 21st. I got 5 pieces in the auction though, and the rest of the show is FANTASTIC. Seriously. The work is boss. If you’re in the area you should go down and see it right now… OK maybe not this second but when the Vanderelli room is open. Footnote if you’re looking for interesting stuff to do you should check out the Vanderelli Room’s Facebook page, they’re always doing cool stuff down in that space.
Oh and where will I be this weekend? I’m going to Autumn Fires at Wisteria. I’ve been a regular at this site for over 10 years but I haven’t been recently due to personal stuff. This event features a hand building ceramic workshop and pit firing, which is featured in the video below. I shot and edited that 7 years ago, but it’s still pretty accurate to what goes down. There’s also paths in the woods to wander and an ancestor shrine to remember the dead because for many of us this is the time of year to remember the ones we’ve lost. It’s pretty small chill gig filled with good people. Kid friendly during the day, and shenanigans at night.
I’ve been also reading a lot lately… and I have other thoughts but I’ll save those for a future post. Booyah
